EU adopts anti-Russian sanctions

The Council of the European Council has passed sanctions limiting financing of Russian state banks by European investors, banning shipments of equipment to Russian oil companies from the EU and imposing an embargo on imports and exports of weapons to Russia, RIA Novosti reports.

The sanctions were passed against Russia for destabilizing the situation in the eastern part of Ukraine. The decision was made according to an agreement reached at the Committee of Permanent Representatives on July 29.

The legal texts will be published today and come into force on August 1.
