Russian ministry denies passports will be needed to use Wi-Fi

The Russian Ministry for Communications said that Russians will be given access to Wi-Fi in public places without having to present their passports. The ministry explained that operators could send an identification request to a state structure, while users will need to give identification information: a name, driving license number and so on.

Wi-Fi connection points made by operators require sending SMS messages or a different form of identification before giving users access.
