The sanctions against Iran, introduced by resolution 1929 by the UN
Security Council, were more effective and harsher then it was
expected, US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said at a
joint-conference with his French counterpart Herve Morin in the
Pentagon, ITAR-TASS reports.
Gates emphasized that the resolution was a legal platform for separate
countries to take actions against Iran.
Morin said that there are disputes arising among Iranian politicians.
He agreed with Gates that they need to show absolute determination.
The sides also discussed the situation in Afghanistan. Gates believes
that the USA and its allies need to show that they are moving the
right direction within 4-6 months.
