Turkey plans to arm its F-16 fighters with 145 mid-range AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles. In the future, the Turkish Air Forces may equip F-35 jets that will enter service in 2018 with mid-range missiles, Trend reports.
AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles had been under development by Hughes Aircraft since 1981 and entered service in 1991. Raytheon is producing the missiles.
Ankara plans to buy two F-35 fighters in 2018. The country plans to buy a total of 100 such fighters in the future.
