Georgian President Georgy Margvelashvili is visiting the Darial Gorge that was hit by a mudslide from the Devdorak Glacier on the 134th km of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars road at about 10.00pm yesterday. The mudslide blocked the Georgian Military Road and damaged the North Caucasus – Trans-Caucasus gas pipeline connecting Russia and Armenia, Georgia Online reports.
There is no threat that the River Terek will flood the area.
Georgian Minister for Regional Development and Infrastructure David Shavliashvili, his deputy Georgy Amashukeli, head of the Roads Department Vazha Panchulidze, Minister for Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Elgudzha Khokrishvili, Interior Minister Alexander Chikaidze and Minister for Finances Nodar Khaduri have already arrived in the area.
