EU to allocate 500 million euros to Ukraine, German chancellor says

The European Union is going to allocate some 500 million euros to Ukraine so that the country is able to reconstruct infrastructure damaged during the military operation in the eastern part of the country.

The remarks were made during the German leader's visit to Kyiv.

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko also said that the parties discussed the peace process in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The Ukrainian president also said that the German chancellor is Ukraine's "major champion in the European Union."

For her part, Chancellor Merkel stressed that Germany is committed to a successful resolution of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. "We all want the war to stop," Angela Merkel said.
