Iran reconstructs and tests Arak reactor

 

Iranian experts are reconstructing the heavy-water reactor and testing its equipment in Arak, according to Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. Technical details about the processes will be announced before the meeting of Iran and the Group of Six mediators.The U.S. and the EU fear that the reactor could be used to produce about 9kg of plutonium a year. Iran denies any plans to do so. Iran halted developments at the reactor according to an agreement reached in Geneva.Salehi said in early February that Iran wanted to adjust the reactor to reduce its potential plutonium production.
