Russian Minister for North Caucasus Affairs Lev Kuznetsov,during the session held within the framework of the working visit to Karachay-Cherkessia, proposed a road map for development of agriculture in the North Caucasian Federal District (NCFD). The minister reminded that Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev had named the main goals of food import displacement at a recent council in Kursk, noting that they corresponded to natural and human resources in the region.
Kuznetsov emphasized that the government was ready to support regional agricultural industry via federal purpose programs and budget injections. One of the plans is to create a quality and eco-friendly Caucasus brand.
Alexander Nikulin, the director of the Center for Agrarian Studies of the RANEPA Institute of Applied Economics Studies, told Vestnik Kavkaza that such road maps were essential for Russia. He reminded that the Caucasus was a “granary” and a healthcare center of Russia. The expert believes that the Caucasus will keep attracting investments.
