The USA hopes that Turkey will make active efforts in fighting Islamic State (IS) after the crisis with the Turkish hostages was resolved, US Secretary of State John Kerry declared, CNN Turk TV channel reports. In the mid-June armed fighters of IS seized the Turkish consulate in Mosul and took 49 employees of the diplomatic mission hostage, including the Turkish consul and diplomats. Due to Turkish citizens being in the hands of IS fighters, Turkey refused active participation in the coalition created by the USA to fight the group. On Saturday the hostages were released by forces of the Turkish security services and returned to Turkey.
