Moscow and Baku successfully cooperate in humanitarian sector

Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko said at the 4th International Humanitarian Forum in Baku that Russia and Azerbaijan were successfully cooperating in the humanitarian sphere. She reminded that Russian President Vladimir Putin had signed a humanitarian cooperation program in Baku in August 2013. The legislator reminded that the fifth Russian-Azerbaijani forum on cooperation in Qabala in June 2014 had contributed to interregional collaboration.

Matviyenko noted development of cooperation in education and culture, adding that about 13,000 Azerbaijani students were studying in Russia. She called the Baku branch of the Lomonosov Moscow State University operating since 2008 a prestigious education center in Azerbaijan. About 400 students study at five of its faculties.

The Russian lawmaker said that the Caspian Summit in Astrakhan had been concluded opening a direct path towards signing of a convention on the legal status of the sea in 2015. She noted that it became possible due to stability and lack of conflicts, trust and mutual understanding.
