Turkish President Abdullah Gul has made a speech to presidents and
heads of governments of approximately 140 countries at the UN summit
for Millennium Development Goals, TRT reports.
He said that global development is an important issue in Turkish
foreign policy. The Turkish contribution exceeds $1.5 billion
annually.
Gul emphasized that global problems, including global climate changes
and economic recession make Millennium Development Goals significant.
The president noted that the private sector and non-governmental
organizations should concentrate on development issues.
President Gul pointed out the importance of developing a strategy to
help the poor and the socially vulnerable. He said that Turkey had
made the millennium goals part of its domestic policies. Gul also
spoke about Turkish achievements in healthcare, education, social
development and housing construction.
