Explosion hits downtown Grozny

An explosion hit the Chechen capital of Grozny today, RIA Novosti reports on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Isayev Avenue, not far from the railway station. Several people were injured, the news agency cites the local office of the Russian Ministry of Emergencies as saying.

The attack was launched by a suicide bomber, after police officers had decided to check his papers.
