Verdict on Timur Tangiyev confirmedThe Investigative Committee of Russia today circulated information about the end of the last court session on the case of Timur Tangiyev, who in 2003 killed a Chechen policemen. Tangiev was sentenced to 21 years in prison. In 2004 Tangiev was sentenced to 24 years in prison, but this decision was overturned by the Presidium of the Russian Supreme Court, which referred his case for a new trial. "The reason for the revision of the sentence was the decision of the European Court of Human Rights of 11 December 2012, which declared that the verdict was based on the testimony of Tangiyev obtained under torture. The re-examination of the criminal case proved his involvement in the crimes incriminated to him. Jurors assessors on September 23, 2014 unanimously found Tangiyev guilty," the statement of the Investigative Committee reads.
