Is the world going through "Caribbean Crisis 2.0"?

At a round-table discussion devoted to the Caribbean Crisis of 1962, the speaker of the Russian State Duma, Sergey Naryshkin, declared that he doesn't exclude the possibility that the West, in imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation, is intentionally narrowing the platform for dialogue. According to Naryshkin, the subject of the Caribbean Crisis, which took place 52 years ago, is very topical today, in connection with almost the same difficult situation in the world as in 1962.According to the first vice-president of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems, Konstantin Sivkov, today the West, primarily the USA, does everything to strengthen pressure on Russia by means of so-called "soft power" and therefore a repeat of the lessons of the Caribbean Crisis shouldn't be expected, especially as the crisis territories are not near America today, but at Russia’s borders – in Ukraine.
