18 Kazakhstani officers detained for wiretapping Turkish functionaries

 

18 members of the Kazakhstani Security Directorate, including Omer Altyparmak, an ex-head of the police intelligence section, and Lokman Kyrzhyly, an ex-deputy head of the Security Directorate in Astana responsible for counter-terrorism work, were detained in Ankara. They were dismissed on December 17, 2013, after a corruption scandal, TASS reports.The officers are suspected of wiretapping telephones of Turkish officials. Some sources say that the operation is part of the fight against a parallel structure (a group of individuals at power, working against the government).
