The Russian Duma has started the Dagestan Festival today. It will continue until October 24. MPs will visit an art exhibition, a concert and will have official meetings with authorities of the republic. The festival was opened by Dagestani Leader Ramazan Abdulatipov, Yuga.ru reports.
Abdulatipov noted the need for a special program to develop Dagestan and improve its socio-economic situation, instead of the program for social benefits. He said that institutions associated with its development had been corrupted after 1991. They include the fishing, oil and gas industries.
The official clarified that Dagestan had achieved the highest rate of economic and industrial development rates in Russia, the fourth-highest tax rate and the sixth-highest healthcare modernization rate.
Abdulatipov pointed out that the president, prime minister and lawmakers were supporting Dagestan but they were unaware of its developments and the problems it faced. Thus, according to him, the republic needed a political document, a program for development of institutions, not a program to boost rates and social benefits.
