Cyprus is no obstacle for Turkey's European integration

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has once again reiterated Turkey's desire to join the European Union, stressing that Turkey wants to become a part of the EU not because it would like to improve living standards, but because it shares the values the union represents.

According to Erdogan, Turkey's entrance in the EU would be a remarkable page of the union's history.

Vestnik Kavkaza asked Turkish analyst Togrul Ismail to comment on Turkey's EU bid.

The expert believes the European integration is one of the main goal of Turkey's foreign policy. He underlines that Turkey's future membership in the EU is indeed possible, but in order to secure it the country have to fulfil its international obligations.

The analyst also believes that the Cypriot issue won't prevent Turkey's integration in the EU.

"All problems can be solved. Any controversial issues may be settled through negotiations. Turkey has shown many times that it is willing to resolve the Cypriot issue," he said.
