Azerbaijani president makes speech at UN General Assembly

On September 23 the 65th session of the UN General Assembly opened
discussions at the UN headquarters in New York, AzerTag reports.
Azerbaijani President Ilkham Aliyev made a speech at the General
Assembly.


Aliyev said that Azerbaijan recognizes the central role of the UN in
peace and security, stable development and protection of fundamental
liberties. He noted that the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan
is a threat to global and regional security.


Aliyev reminded the Assembly that one fifth of Azerbaijani territory
is occupied, every tenth citizen is a forced migrant or a refugee. The
Azerbaijani president requested the UN to assist in freeing the
occupied territories, according to the UN Security Council’s
resolutions.
