Unity is foundation of Russia's well-being, PM says

Russian President Vladimir Putin has laid flowers at the Minin and Pozharsky monument on Red Square. Officials of religious and public organizations took part in the ceremony. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the country on the Day of People's Unity and reminded that unity was the foundation of a peaceful, prosperous and worthy life, RIA Novosti reports.


Civil Platform, Homeland, Alliance of Greens and Social Democrats Communists of Russia, Russian Party of Pensioners for Justice and the All-Russian People's Front took part in the "We Are  United" meeting in Moscow at 2.00pm. Leo Bokeria, an initiator and organizer of the meeting, the director of the Bakoulev Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery, said that people wanted peace, respect for the elderly and a good education, RIA Novosti reports.


People in the North Caucasus have gathered on central squares to sing the national enthem. 6,000 people took part in such a meeting in Stavropol, 3,000 in Cherkessk, 1,000 in Nazran, 1,000 in Nalchik, 2,000 in Makhachkala, 5,000 in Vladikavkaz, 15,300 in Grozny, Yuga.ru reports.


North Caucasus leaders Vladimir Vladimirov (Stavropol Territory), Ramzan Kadyrov (Chechnya), Ramazan Abdulatipov (Dagestan), Yuri Kokov (Kabardino-Balkaria) and Rashid Temrezov (Karachay-Cherkessia) have congratulated Russians on the Day of People's Unity. They noted the importance of consolidation, strengthening sovereignty, patriotism and respect for ancestors.
