Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that he will continue strengthening the national army. He emphasized that Turkmenistan was a neutral state and its Armed Forces only served to defend the country, its independence and citizens, Trend reports.
President Berdimuhamedov, an army general, the Commander-in-Chief of the Turkmen Army, ordered the Defense Ministry to use advanced technologies, machines and methods of patriotic education to make the army stronger. Modernization of the army is the most important aspect of the Turkmen military reform.
2015 has been declared Peace and Neutrality Year in Turkmenistan. The UN General Assembly passed a resolution on the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan on December 12, 1995.
