Roman Khudyakov, a Russian MP of the LDPR, proposed formation of a military subdivision consisting of foreigners. His proposal was sent to the Russian Defense Ministry and the CSTO, Izvestia reports.
The formation may guarantee stability in Central Asia and protection from ISIS. The foreign armed formation would fight terrorists before they enter Russian territory, without having to send Russian troops.
According to the idea, foreigners will be paid the same sum as Russian soldiers and will be given citizenship after 6 years of service. Khudyakov noted that Uzbek and Tajik soldiers would gladly join the structure. Russian officers would be training them.
Military experts warn that armed troops from Central Asia could take the side of ISIS in certain circumstances. Even if the subdivision of foreigners is formed, it will need to be put under strict control.
The Defense Ministry has not commented on the initiative.
