Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s message read out by State Advisor for Interethnic Affairs, Multiculturalism and Religion Kyamal Abdullayev at an international conference on religious tolerance, Azerbaijani model of tolerance, challenges in the OSCE region and beyond hosted by Baku that protection and promotion of cultural diversity, multiculturalism and tolerance were priorities of Azerbaijan, Trend reports.
Relations between the state and religion are based on the rich national historical tradition and international laws, according to Aliyev. The religious politics is an important factor of socio-political stability, civil solidarity, an example of tolerance. The message said that Azerbaijan was calling for inter-civilization dialogue, peace and security, the country was holding international humanitarian forums, religious summits, marking the International Tolerance Day with representatives of all confessions.
Aliyev emphasized that the complicated ethnic processes in some countries were a result of attempts to use religion for political ambitions. Growing radicalism and extremism prove that there is no alternative to multiculturalism. The president expressed hope that such international conferences will contribute to development of human values, interreligious and intercultural dialogue, solidarity, tolerance and mutual understanding.
