Russia bans meat from Montenegro

Russia has banned meat products from Montenegro on suspicion that the EU had been smuggling its meat to Russia under labels of Montenegro, according to Alexey Alexeyenko, assistant chief of Rospotrebnadzor (Russian consumer surveillance service), TASS reports.

Alexeyenko noted that meat shipments from Montenegro had been rising much faster than its productive capacity. The official added that the ban on meat from the country will be a serious blow for the diversity of meat products in Russia.

Russia banned meat products, fruits and vegetables, seafood, dairy products from the EU, Australia, Canada, Norway and the U.S. on August 7 as a response to sanctions imposed on Russia over the situation in Ukraine.
