Alexey Pushkov, the head of the Russian State Duma committee for international affairs, said that Europe had turned into a branch of the U.S. because it was imposing sanctions on Russia while being dependent on the Russian market. He pointed out that German Chancellor Angela Merkel was tough, while Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier was more pacifying.
Pushkov reminded that Russia and Germany had had a turnover of some $100 million. He believes that French President Francois Hollande wants to continue dialogue. The legislator expressed misunderstanding of how the crisis in the east of Ukraine could threaten the EU.
