Airlines of Tajikistan, Russia and other countries have stopped selling tickets to holders of internal passports on November 25. The Transportation Ministry of Tajikistan said a month ago that it wanted to help citizens without international passports avoid possible problems in case they will not have returned before the new rules come into force on January 1, 2015, Interfax reports.
In October, the Tajik Foreign Ministry opened five additional centers issuing international passports to Tajik citizens, making a total of 8 such centers. Over 1.2 million Tajik citizens work in Russia. Tajikistan has 101 centers issuing international passports.
According to the new rules, crossing the Russian-Tajik border will only be allowed for holders of international passports from January 1, 2015.
