Ukrainian parliament of 8th calling starts session in Kiev

Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament of the 7th calling Oleksandr Turchynov started a new session of parliament. President Petro Poroshenko and prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, ex-presidents, ex-MPs, the president and members of the Constitutional Court, the prosecutor general and the head of the Central Bank of Ukraine attended the opening. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko, religious representatives and diplomats arrived for the opening.

New MPs took the oath. Factions named their leaders: Yuriy Lutsenko for the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko (as stated by Olga Bogomolets of the party), Oleh Berezyuk of the Self-Reliance Party, Yulia Tymoshenko of the Fatherland Party (as stated by Sergey Sobolev of the faction), Oleksandr Turchynov for the People’s Front (as stated by Victoria Syumar), Oleh Lyashko for the Radical Party (as stated by Denis Selantyev of the party), Yuri Boyko for the Opposition Bloc.

Vice Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc is a likely candidate to take the speaker’s post that MPs need to fill. The Bloc of Petro Poroshenko, the People’s Front, the Self-Reliance Party, the Radical Party and the Fatherland have formed a coalition. Arseniy Yatsenyuk is a likely candidate for the prime minister’s post.

Deputy speakers of parliament will be elected on December 2 because factions will choose them depending on those who become heads of committees, said Sergey Sobolev of the Fatherland Party.

A group of 200 activists gathered at Constitution Square and protested against the laws of January 16. Members of Credit Maidan were seen among them, they demand payments of loans according to the old hryvnia rate.

The People’s Front consists of 83 members headed by Oleksandr Turchynov, Self-Reliance of 32 members headed by Oleh Berezyuk, the Opposition Bloc of 40 members headed by Yuriy Boyko, the Radical Party of 22 members headed by Oleh Lyashko, Fatherland of 19 members headed by Yulia Tymoshenko.
