Polish ex-Prime Minister Donald Tusk has replaced Herman Van Rompuy as the president of the European Council. Jean-Claude Juncker is the president of the European Commission and Federica Mogherini is the head of the European External Action Service, TASS reports.
Tusk will chair the European Council for 2.5 years. He will organize its sessions and help EU leaders find compromises in solving problems.
The crisis in Ukraine will be Tusk’s priority concern. The politician is well-known in Kiev as one of the developers of the EU Eastern Partnership program. Moreover, Tusk helped improve Russian-Polish relations in 2008.
