Russia-24 broadcasts interview with Ilham AliyevThe Russia-24 TV channel has broadcast an interview with Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev that he gave on Friday. Aliyev answered questions on Russian-Azerbaijani relations, the Azerbaijani economy, the European Games in Baku, the Karabakh conflict and other topics."There are no unresolved issues between Moscow and Baku," Aliyev said."Today Russia and Azerbaijan are neighbors that are developing actively and are ready to resist any external influences. We have a good potential in the oil and gas spheres. We are interested in the North-South transportation corridor. We are increasing the export potential of our agricultural produce to the Russian market," the Azerbaijani president stressed."Investments in the economy of Azerbaijan amount to $28 billion, of which 70% is internal investment. Every year we are working to increase our currency reserves. The main questions of Azerbaijan's development are connected to regional development... We invest in Asia, Europe, Russia, property, industry, banking. We purchased stocks of Russia's VTB and are ready to invest in the Russian market despite the sanctions," Aliyev noted, adding that Russia remains a friend and a partner of Azerbaijan."As for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, we have an impression that Armenia does not want progress in this issue, trying to preserve the status quo. This position is unacceptable," Aliyev stressed.

"As for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, we have an impression that Armenia does not want progress in this issue, trying to preserve the status quo. This position is unacceptable and we have said this to Armenia. There are four UN resolutions that require immediate withdrawal of Armenian military from the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, but Armenia ignores them. This year was different from the previous ones because the countries of the OCSE Minsk group are actively participating in the negotiation process, which had not previously been the case," Aliyev stressed.

 

"This year the ISIS appeared. This is the result of the developments in the Middle East in the last 10 years. This once again proves that one needs to be very careful while supporting radical groups. There are no good and bad terrorists",  Ilham Aliyev noted.

 

"Baku is preparing to the first European Games. The future of the games depends on how we will host them. We will set the standard. We decided to hold them on the level of the Summer Olympics. There was not much time for preparation but we did not waste it - we are building new sport objects and infrastructure. It is a very wise decision from the point of view of multiculturalism, to hold the first European games in a Muslim country", concluded the president of Azerbaijan.
