The Committee on Foreign Relations of the US Senate is going to discuss the candidacy of Richard Mills for the post of Ambassador to Armenia at a hearing on December 4.
His candidacy was proposed by US President Barack Obama in early July. Mills would replace the current US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern in this position.
Richard Mills is a graduate of Georgetown College, has a law degree from the University of Texas and a master's degree in international security from the National Defense University. He has worked for the diplomatic service since 1988. He currently holds the post of Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Lebanon. Over the years, the diplomat has worked in Malta, France, Russia, Ireland, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, and dealt with problems of Armenia and Azerbaijan after they became independent, Novosti-Armenia reports.
