2nd North Caucasus mass media forum opens in Pyatigorsk

The 2nd Forum of Mass Media of the North Caucasian Federal District has opened in Pyatigorsk (Stavropol Territory). The forum is dedicated to truthful information from the North Caucasus, release of regional media products on the federal information space, cooperation of mass media with heads of organizations realizing large investment, social and cultural projects in the NCFD. Attendees of the forum will visit the Arkhyz all-season tourism complex on December 3 to attend a round-table conference with Northern Caucasus Resorts Director General Sergey Vereshchagin.

The Kavkaz MCPC will present its research “The North Caucasus: reflection in the Internet space” on December 3. Experts will describe trends in the formation of a positive image of the region. The presentation will be held within the framework of a round-table conference “The image of the North Caucasus: an expert opinion,” attended by heads of Internet media and bloggers.

Margarita Lyanghe, the head of the Interethnic Journalism Guild, will hold a master class “The work of a journalist in the sector of interethnic and interreligious problems” for North Caucasus students. Rutube Director General Yelena Sakharova will hold a master class for regional journalists and students of the PSLU.

A plenary session “The North Caucasus: the reality and its reflection in the mass media” will be held on December 5. Alexander Khloponin, a Russian vice prime minister, Sergey Melikov, the authorized presidential envoy to the NCFD, Lev Kuznetsov, the Russian minister for North Caucasus Affairs, and heads of regions of the federal districts are expected to attend the session. Organizers plan a live plenary session of the forum on Russia-24 and in the form of an Internet conference on Rutube. VGTRK journalists will moderate the event. A press center will operate constantly during the forum.

The specificities of the TV channels in the region will be discussed at a section “Realization of new media projects on TV channels.” A round-table conference “Derbent-2000. Information opportunities on the threshold of the anniversary” will be held on Friday.

The mass media forum will be attended by Mikhail Kalmykov, a deputy director general of TASS, Alexander Kupriyanov, the TASS director for the regions, and Boris Kipkeyev, an advisor to the TASS director general. Kupriyanov will be the moderator of a round-table conference “Specificities of the formation of regional information content for the federal mass media.” TASS will present a photo exhibition “History and modernity in the eyes of TASS,” a slide show “The North Caucasus in photographs of TASS.”

The forum will be concluded with awarding winners of two Prometey Premiums, created by the Mass Media Association of the NCFD this year, and Media-Kavkaz, which is awarded in 10 nominations. Mass media from all regions of the North Caucasus will be awarded in the following nominations: Radio Station of the Year, Information Agency of the Year, Internet Media of the Year, Print Media of the Year, TV Channel of the Year, Discovery of the Year, Photoreporter of the Year, Journalist of the Year, Media Event of the Year and Man of the North Caucasus Media of the Year.

Razhap Musayev, the founder of the prize, the executive director of the Mass Media Association of the NCFD, said that over 300 bids had been received in 2014. Yelena Sakharova, the director general of Rutube, heads the judges.
