French President Francois Hollande expressed hope at a meeting with his Kazakhstani counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev in Astana that tensions with Russia would be ended. Hollande reminded that Kazakhstan was playing an important role in improving relations between the EU and Russia, RIA Novosti reports.
Hollande started his visit to Kazakhstan today. He discussed strategic partnership, trade-economic cooperation, investments, petroleum, the space industry and engineering.
The EU and the U.S. passed anti-Russian sanctions in late July over the situation in Ukraine. The sanctions were imposed on individuals, companies and sectors of the Russian economy. In response, Russia banned imports of food from the U.S., EU, Canada, Australia and Norway.
