Arsen Kanokov has been affirmed as President of Kabardino-Balkaria,
RIA Novosti reports.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev introduced his candidature to the
parliament of Kabardino-Balkaria on August 23. Other candidates were
Anuar Chechenov, parliamentary speaker of Kabardino-Balkaria,
introduced by the ruling "United Russia" party, and Alexander Merkulov,
chairman of the regional government. Arsen Kanokov received the
majority of deputy votes in September. Kanokov has been heading the
region since 2005.
Representatives of the president's administration and the government
of Russia, heads of subjects, deputies of the Russian Federal Council,
ministers and parliamentarians of the republic, public figures and
media were at the inauguration.
