Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia will respond to the U.S. missile shield in Europe sometime. He noted that the U.S. was ignoring the preoccupation of Russia with plans to place anti-missile elements in Romania and Poland, allegedly violating the INF Treaty because launch pads would be used for Tomahawk medium-range missiles, RIA Novosti reports.
Lavrov reminded that the U.S. had accused Russia of violating the INF in July without presenting any proof.
The minister noted that Russian and U.S. Presidents Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama had met three times in 2014, having talks at the APEC summit in Beijing and the G20 summit in Brisbane. They had had 10 telephone conversations, he added. Lavrov said that he was in touch with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. The Russian minister has met with Kerry 16 times since January. They met at the OSCE ministerial in Basel on December 4, not to mention having dozens of telephone conversations.
