Russian senator says anti-Russian sanctions are useless

Vladimir Jabarov, a Russian senator from the Jewish Autonomous Oblast, has visited Vestnik Kavkaza and discussed the situation around South Stream, Mistral ships in France, relations with Kiev, anti-Russian sanctions. He noted that sanctions could not change the political course of the country.


The senator reminded that sanctions against North Korea had not stopped its nuclear program, Iran had not abandoned its nuclear program despite election of Hassan Rouhani as the president more enthusiastic about developing relations with the West. Jabarov added that the USSR had been under sanctions all the time after WWII. In his words, Berlin's refusal to sell large-diameter gas pipes in the 1960s forced the country to produce its own.


Jabarov noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin had visited India yesterday to develop contacts. India, a BRICS member, called Russia a strategic partner, expressed readiness to cooperate with Russia in the Arctic, to purchase Russian military equipment. The senator added that Russia was cooperating with China.
