Head of Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Education fired due to corruption row

Today the head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan Kanat Sadykov was dismissed. The reason for the resignation was the controversy over the illegal enrollment of 24 entrants to the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU).

"On the twelfth of December, the President signed a decree, resolving to accept the resignation of Sadykov KJ and dismiss the Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic" of his post – RIA Novosti cites a message of the press service of President Almazbek Atambayev.

Some time ago there was a criminal case against the chairman of the Education Committee of the Kyrgyz parliament, Kanybek Osmonaliev. Osmonoliyev provided illegal entry into the KRSU to number of applicants, explaining that they needed to enrol as they belong to concessional categories. However, it turned out that none of these applicants were part of a socially-vulnerable group, and their parents paid Osmonaliev for admission. The requirement of the resignation of the Minister of Education was made by Attorney General Aida Salyanova.
