Kazakhstan during its presidency of the CIS in 2015 will take measures to preserve Ukraine's membership in the Commonwealth, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belarus, Yergali Bulegenov, said today.
"Kazakhstan would like Ukraine to stay in the CIS. This is a unique platform for large meetings, development of joint solutions. Within its abilities Kazakhstan, of course, will take steps for Ukraine to maintain its membership in the union," Bulegenov told a press-conference in Minsk, Interfax-Azerbaijan reports.
Speaking about the measures that Kazakhstan would like to take during its presidency to resolve the situation with Ukraine's membership of the CIS, the diplomat said that everything will depend on the actions of the Ukrainian authorities. "We will watch how the situation will develop, as the Verkhovna Rada will consider withdrawal from the CIS," Bulegenov said, noting that if Ukraine firmly decides to withdraw from the Commonwealth, "no one will force Ukraine to stay.”
