Maya Kocijancic, a spokeswoman of the EU chief diplomat, said that the Union was urging Russia to demonstrate a wise and symmetrical response to the terrorist attack in Grozny on December 4 and the following situation around protection of human rights, RIA Novosti reports.
Kocijancic expressed condolences to the relatives of the people killed in the attack. In her words, responsibility should be put on the organizers of terrorist attacks and violators of human rights. The EU official added that Chechen Leader Ramzan Kadyrov's call for collective responsibility would only make the situation worse.
She expressed hope that Russia would comply with its international obligations and protect human rights activists, including the ones working in the North Caucasus.
