The European Union is interested in building a wall between the EU and Russia, and should be ready to lift the sanctions if the peace process continues in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed today by the Austrian Federal Chancellor Werner Faymann.
"We must specify both directions. If the peace talks will not bring any results, then the EU will stick to its line of defense of sovereignty. If we focus on the peace process, it is necessary to make it clear that we must be ready to lift the sanctions," Faymann is quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to him, it is about building a common space for Russia, Ukraine and Europe.
"It is a common space with Russia, the Ukraine, a European space, an economic space, this is a question of the future of Europe. Building a wall forever is not in our, or in anybody’s interests," Faymann said, adding that the current situation does not allow for talk about a normalization of relations with Russia.
