In Brussels, the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Gabriella Battani-Dragoni, and the representative of the European Commission, Michael Keller, signed a new program of assistance to the countries of the "Eastern Partnership" in the development of democracy and the supremacy of law, rated for a three-year period.
Before the signing, in his opening speech the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe noted that in the countries of the "Eastern Partnership" there are still many problems in relation to vulnerable groups in the electoral legislation and the fight against corruption.
European Commission representative Moeller, in his turn, noted that the Commission and the Council of Europe have agreed on an action plan for 2015 in the framework of the agreement.
The program of the Council of Europe and the EU on the whole is designed for three years. The total amount of aid will be 33.8 million euros. In this, Battani-Dragoni did not eliminate further cooperation with the EU in helping the southern neighbors of Europe.
