Georgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Teymuraz Sharashenidze said that the Georgian section of the Kars–Tbilisi–Baku railway (KTB) is ready to launch a test train. Work on the construction of the Georgian section of KTB, he said, is largely completed. Implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project is scheduled for completion in 2015, and at the end of this year it is planned to start the first test of actual trains.
KTB is built on the basis of the Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement. The project includes building a new 105-kilometer branch of the railroad. In addition, Georgia would be reconstructing the Marabda-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi railway section, which will increase its capacity to 15 million tonnes of cargo per year.
