Lavrov: Moscow concerned by deadlock in negotiations between Israel and Palestine

At a meeting with Saeb Erekat, who heads the Palestinian delegation at the negotiations on the Middle East, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the deadlock in the Middle East conflict settlement is causing concern.

"We are deeply concerned by the deadlock in the peace process between Palestine and Israel," Lavrov is quoted by TASS. "We understand and support the wish of the Palestinian people to achieve statehood," he said. "We know about the draft resolution on Palestine recently submitted to the UN Security Council."

"We hope to hear your assessment and find ways that would enable the aspirations of the Palestinian people," Lavrov said.

In his turn, Erekat said that there is a lot to discuss. "Now we are going through a very tough period, thank you for your support, including in the UN Security Council," he said.
