Yesterday in the Heydar Aliyev Center a musical evening was held dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Lermontov. It was attended by the First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, Vice-president of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva.
At the beginning of the event a tour was made for Mehriban Aliyeva, Leyla Aliyeva, Arzu Aliyeva and President of the Association "Lermontov Heritage", Mikhail Lermontov, of an exhibition dedicated to the works of the poet, which is divided into three parts: "Reproductions of Lermontov the artist", "The artistic image of the poet Eyes of Children" and "Presentation of the personality and literary creativity of Lermontov made by students and tutors of the faculty of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts."
The Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva, reminded the guests of the event about the importance of the creativity of Lermontov. "Today we are united with you by a very bright event - the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Lermontov. I know that this date is celebrated in many countries, as the genius of Lermontov belongs to all mankind. His work has made a huge contribution to world culture, and it is appreciated by all nations. He is loved both in the West and in the East. Lermontov’s poetry is both bright and civic-minded, and deep philosophy and graceful love lyrics. Everyone knows that Lermontov wrote many of his works during his exile in the Caucasus. He was an artist and a poet, who found inspiration in the very bright colors of the Caucasus mountains, forests and rivers. And he filled his works with the flavor of local traditions and customs. Even many of his heroes were real inhabitants of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Chechnya and Dagestan. And he showed us how important cultural diversity is," Trend quotes Leyla Aliyeva.
During the ensuing artistic part of the meeting, people from the artistic and cultural life of Azerbaijan and Russia performed excerpts of literary works and poems of Lermontov. The concert was participated in by the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli and the Azerbaijan State Choir. At the end of the event, guests saw the world premiere of work by Lermontov's "Angel."
