The Dagestani People's Assembly and the parliament of
Kabardino-Balkaria spoke out against the use of the word 'president'
for the head of federal subjects in Russia, and deputies of Stavropol
and Tomsk proposed renaming regional parliaments, which are currently
called State Duma.
Dagestani deputies proposed introducing amendments to article 18 of
the federal law on the principles of legislative and executive
branches of power in Russian subjects.
The parliament of Kabardino-Balkaria support the initiatives. They
will be presented at the Russian State Duma.
The State Duma of Krasnodar Territory expressed their support of the
initiative. The deputies have unanimously passed amendments to the
main law in Stavropol Territory, which involve new notions for the
legislative branch - the 'Duma of Stavropol Territory'. The law will
come into force in 10 days after it is signed by the governor and
officially published. During the transition period, which lasts until
January 1, 2011, both notions will be equal. Tomsk Region expressed
its approval of the initiatives.
