Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has met with heads of religions from the North Caucasus in Baku. He thanked them for attending the opening of the Heydar Aliyev Mosque. In his words, such events were promoting rapprochement of Muslims, and peace and stability in the region, Trend reports.
Aliyev called the mosque opening a historic event. He emphasized that Azerbaijan was committed to religious values. The president considers attempts at alienating young people from their historical origins to be a dangerous tendency.
Ismail Berdyev, the head of the Coordinating Council of North Caucasus muftis, the mufti of Karachay-Cherkessia, thanked Aliyev for the invitation to the opening. He added that he was always praying for peace and serenity and settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
