Merkel: We want to ensure security in Europe together with Russia

The Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel believes that security in Europe is only possible when interacting with Russia, but she criticized Russian policy in relation to Ukraine.

"There are no doubts that we wish to ensure security in Europe together with Russia, not against Russia," she said in her New Year address.

The politician noted that in 2014 the self-determination of the Ukrainian nation had come under question because of the policy of Russia.

"There is no doubt that Europe cannot and will not accept the right of the strongest, whoever violates international law," Merkel stressed.

"Europe has decided not to be separated, and stronger than ever, to act as a single entity to protect its peaceful order and values," the Chancellor is quoted by Interfax.
