Manifestation of Nazism in Ukraine shouldn’t be hushed up, says Russian FM

Maria Zakharova, the Deputy Director of the Department for Press Information of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that international organizations should appropriately evaluate an attack on LifeNews (Russian TV-channel) journalists in Kiev.

Western countries don’t see neo-Nazi manifestations in Ukraine, as their channels don’t cover torch-light processions in the center of Kiev. According to her, Kiev prevents the work of Russian journalists who try to raise the question.

Zakharova noted that at official talks and press conferences Western colleagues regularly state that “the Russian side exaggerates the manifestation of neo-Nazism in Ukraine, and they see no direct instances of it.” Zakharova says it is a vicious circle and awful tendency.

“I hope that, despite the New Year holidays, the international journalist community, human rights activists and international organizations which are responsible for freedom of speech not only register, but also adequately assess the attack on our journalists,” Zakharova stated.

“It is important that anti-fascist organizations should state their opinion, as it is not about some dangerous ideas in the center of Europe, but about certain arrangements which copy Nazi traditions in their form and content. Silence is an act of agreement,” Zakharova stressed.
