A new Palestinian draft resolution may be introduced for discussions at the UNSC next week, said Chilean Representative to the UN Cristián Barros Melet. The Chilean diplomat will chair the UNSC in January. The previous draft resolution was downvoted in late December 2014, TASS reports.
According to Melet, there have been no meetings on Palestine at the Security Council and none are planned.
The UNSC voted against the resolution on the formation of a Palestinian state and a cessation of the Israeli occupation on December 30. The document did not get 9 out of the 15 votes needed to pass. The U.S. voted against the draft resolution.
