Ban Ki-moon says repressing Muslims gives advantage to terrorists

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon yesterday warned the world community of reprisals against Muslims which may follow the terrorist attacks of 7 and 9 January in Paris, as such measures will only lead to an escalation of tension and open confrontation. A corresponding statement was circulated by the office of the Secretary General.

Ban Ki-moon addressed the world with an appeal, on the one hand, "to step up efforts to promote tolerance and understanding," and on the other - to fight "terrorism in all its forms." "The Secretary-General reiterates its condemnation of terrorism. No purpose or resentment can justify such actions," he stressed in a statement.
