New legislative chamber begins working in Uzbekistan

 

The first session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (lower house of parliament) of the new convocation will be held on Monday.

 

On the agenda there are organizational issues, particularly the election of a council of elders, the House Speaker and his deputies.

 

In accordance with the legislation of the country, the first session of the Legislative Chamber shall be convened by the Central Election Commission. It was opened by the CEC Chairman, who presides over it until the election of the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber.

 

The two-chamber parliament in Uzbekistan was formed in 2005. In the upper house - the Senate - there are 100 deputies, in the Legislative Chamber - 150 deputies were elected for a term of five years.
