Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has expressed readiness to grant Donbass a special economic status, allowing it to form special relations with Russia and the EU, RIA Novosti reports.
The sides of the conflict reached a truce agreement in Minsk on September 5. One of the provisions of the document stipulates a special status or Donbass, RIA Novosti reports.
Following all provisions of the agreement would settle the conflict in two weeks, believes Poroshenko. He emphasized that ceasefire, closing of the border and withdrawal of foreign troops were the key provision in the document. The Ukrainian leader considers the conflict a threat to global security. In his words, the global security system based on the UNSC is no longer functioning.
